Philo, 21, is in his third collegiate season, and his first with Florida after two years at Georgia Tech. Philo has thrown for 1,341 yards, nine touchdowns and three interceptions this season, including a pair of each in last week's 38-19 home loss to South Carolina. Philo carried the ball a season-high 13 times last week, and he was sacked three times.
Sophomore quarterback Tramell Jones would make his first career start if Philo is unable to play. But Jones could have one added weapon at his disposal.
Florida wide receiver Vernell Brown III missed the last two games with a knee injury, but he reportedly could play Saturday, where he'll look to resume a season where he recorded 271 receiving yards and two touchdowns in his first four games. Florida will also likely continue to lean on standout running back Jadan Baugh regardless of its quarterback. Baugh is as the nation's leader in rushing touchdowns in 2026, entering Saturday with 12 touchdowns on the ground in his first six games of the season.
Source: Florida star wide receiver Vernell Brown III practiced today and was "the best he's looked" since injuring his knee. He has a "real shot" to play for the Gators at Texas on Saturday after missing the last two games. He has 17 catches for 271 yards and two touchdowns in four games for Florida. Florida is 4-0 when he's played.
