DAEJEON — Daejeon has begun operating designated parking areas for shared electric scooters and bicycles.
The city said it launched a pilot program for designated parking zones for shared scooters and bicycles in five areas of the city starting on the 19th, in cooperation with private operators including GCOO.
Rental companies will impose their own penalty fees on users who park outside the designated areas, a measure the city said is intended to encourage voluntary compliance with parking rules.
The five pilot zones are Woosong University-Daedong Station, City Hall Station, Galleria Time World, Chungnam National University and Yuseong Spa Station. The areas include 99 parking lots dedicated to personal mobility devices, 48 Tashu bike rental stations and 70 bicycle racks managed by district offices, for a total of 217 designated parking locations.
The city plans to continue expanding dedicated parking lots for personal mobility devices, equipped with signs and marked parking lines, around major public transit hubs through next year. The city said the expansion is aimed at preventing scooters from being left unattended and establishing orderly parking, and at creating conditions for personal mobility devices to be used as a useful short-distance alternative once construction of the city's No. 2 subway line, a tram, moves into full swing.
Since July 2025, the city has been fully operating a reporting system for illegally parked or abandoned shared scooters and bicycles, and it operates 992 dedicated parking lots for personal mobility devices as part of broader efforts to create a safer walking environment.
"We will continue to look for ways to improve the situation so that residents do not face difficulties walking because of abandoned personal mobility devices," said Park Jong-bok, director general of the city's construction and housing bureau.
