The Ghana Education Service (GES) says continuing students of Obuasi Senior High Technical School (SHTS) are expected to return to school next week, following a temporary closure that began in August.
In a press release issued on Thursday, October 22, 2026, and signed by its Head of Public Relations, Daniel Fenyi, the Service said preparations were far advanced for the resumption of academic work.
The school was temporarily closed to continuing students on August 5 following disturbances on campus.
“Management assures that preparations are far advanced for continuing students to return to school sometime next week,” the statement said.
The GES noted that first-year students had reported to the school on September 18, 2026, and were already attending classes.
However, the Service did not announce a specific date for the return of continuing students.
The closure followed campus disturbances reportedly linked to tensions surrounding sexual abuse allegations against the school’s headmaster, Zakaria Abdulai.
The GES has suspended the headmaster, while the police have forwarded the case docket to the Office of the Attorney-General for study and advice.
The allegations have involved as many as 19 students, according to previous reports. They remain subject to investigation and the legal process.
The planned reopening would allow continuing students to resume academic work after more than two months away from school.
The GES said further updates would be communicated when necessary.
