Mississippi State football has shockingly found itself right in the middle of the SEC Championship race this season, and the Bulldogs are chasing a College Football Playoff spot in the process. A lot of those hopes rest on the shoulders of star quarterback Kamario Taylor, who has emerged as a Heisman Trophy contender and a top prospect in the 2028 NFL Draft with his hot start this year.
Now, Mississippi State is gearing up for one of its biggest tests yet. Jeff Lebby and the Bulldogs will head on the road to Baton Rouge to take on Lane Kiffin and LSU on Saturday in Death Valley, but Taylor might not be with him. The standout quarterback has been dealing with a foot injury since Mississippi State’s win over Missouri.
ESPN insider Pete Thamel broke down Taylor’s status heading into the game on College Football Live.

“Kamario Taylor’s status for the game at LSU on Saturday is still in flux,” Thamel said. “There’s no certainty whether or not Kamario Taylor is going to play for Mississippi State. The expectation is on the SEC availability report tonight he’ll be listed as questionable. He’s been dealing with a foot injury that occurred in the Missouri game a few weeks back, and obviously he was hobbled in that Alabama game. We’ll see if he can go on Saturday.”
Sure enough, Taylor came down as questionable when Mississippi State’s first official injury report of the week. Star running back Fluff Bothwell, who has also been managing an ankle injury, is also questionable.
Taylor played through that foot injury in Mississippi State’s loss to Alabama a few weeks ago, but he left the game in the fourth quarter when the game was out of hand. He has had two weeks now to rest through the Bulldogs’ bye week, but it’s still unclear if he will be ready to go on Saturday.
Mississippi State already has the one loss on its record, so Saturday’s game is nearly a must-win with bigger tests still ahead in SEC play. On the other side, LSU already has two losses after dropping an overtime contest against Kentucky last week, so Kiffin and company are in firm must-win mode.
Mississippi State vs. LSU will kick off at noon EST on Saturday.
