..Our natural resources are akin to our own blood, without which we cannot possibly survive..
Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto said Indonesia had repeatedly faced external interference whenever it showed signs of progress, warning that foreign parties sought to exploit the country’s natural resources.
“Ladies and gentlemen, we have faced attacks. The Indonesian nation is always hit hard every time we show signs of awakening,” he said while opening a plenary cabinet meeting at the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta on Wednesday.
Prabowo argued that even Indonesia’s establishment as a sovereign state had faced resistance from certain quarters, adding that foreign parties had repeatedly sought to undermine the country’s development.
He pointed to Indonesia’s history of being targeted by various actors because of its abundant natural resources.
The president said his administration would not respond naively to such actions or seek to appease parties it viewed as threats to national progress.
Such an approach was necessary to prevent Indonesia’s wealth from being exploited by foreign interests, he added.
Prabowo cited what he described as clear examples of external interference, including the continued smuggling of narcotics into Indonesia and the illicit outflow of natural resources.
“We must survive, safeguarding our wealth. Our natural resources are akin to our own blood, without which we cannot possibly survive. Ladies and gentlemen, we are currently in a survival mode,” Prabowo said.
He also praised members of his Red and White Cabinet for their hard work and cohesion during the administration’s first two years. Describing cabinet members as the nation’s best sons and daughters, Prabowo commended their dedication and commitment to serving the people.
Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka also attended the meeting, which was themed “The First Two Years of the Government’s Concrete Work for the Country.”
