A disappointing batting performance saw Bangladesh U-19 team suffer a four-wicket defeat to Afghanistan in the series-deciding fourth and final Youth ODI (YODI) at Al Amerat Cricket Ground in Oman on Friday, forcing to share the series 2-2.
Opting to bat first, Bangladesh lost both openers early before skipper Farid Hasan shared a 49-run stand for the third wicket with Alamin Hossain Rony (29) to repair some of the early damage. After the partnership was broken, wickets continued to fall from the other end but Farid held firm with a patient 82 off 145 balls, but his knock was not enough to give Bangladesh a competitive total.
Bangladesh eventually posted 219 for nine in their allotted 50 overs, with Robiul Hasan Anik providing a late boost through an unbeaten 29 off 22 balls, including three sixes.
For Afghanistan, Amir Hamza and Sohail Khan claimed three wickets apiece, while Lutfullah Mohammadi picked up two.
Afghanistan also lost both openers early in their chase, but Tahir Sarwary's unbeaten 67 off 76 balls and Subhan Zakhail's 60 off 81 deliveries steadied the innings and guided their side to 222 for six in 48.1 overs.
Pacer Al Amin Hossen was Bangladesh's most successful bowler, taking two wickets for 44 runs.
Bangladesh had won the opening match by 33 runs before clinching the second via a Super Over. Afghanistan bounced back with a 43-run victory in the third game before drawing level in the series with Friday's win.
