Beef producers are the winners among Swedish farmers, according to this autumn’s agricultural barometer from Ludvig & Co, Swedbank and Sparbankerna.
While the profitability index for both milk and pork producers is falling, the index for beef producers has risen to 62, its highest level in 20 years.
"Beef producers continue to benefit from strong demand and high meat prices, while the settlement price has fallen in pig production," says Cecilia Melin, an agricultural adviser at Ludvig & Co, in a press release.
But even though profitability is now improving, farmers are cautious about the future. Concerns about rising costs for diesel and fertilizer, among other things, are dampening optimism, according to the report.
