European Parliament President Roberta Metsola reaffirmed the European Union’s solidarity with Greece and Cyprus on Wednesday, October 21, amid renewed attention to the maritime memorandum between Turkey and Libya.
Speaking during a plenary session of the European Parliament, Metsola said the two countries could count on the bloc’s support and endorsed a joint statement issued by European Council President António Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen concerning the agreement.
Metsola was responding to an issue raised by Greek European Parliament member Elissavet Vozemberg-Vrionidi.
“We greatly appreciate the clarity of the joint statement by Presidents Costa and von der Leyen regarding the so-called memorandum, and we share the concerns expressed. Greece and Cyprus can count on our solidarity,” Metsola said.
