EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — The New York Giants ruled out inside linebacker Tremaine Edmunds and cornerback Greg Newsome for their game Sunday at Houston.
Edmunds did not practice all week with what the team listed as a shoulder injury. Citing anonymous sources, The Athletic reported Friday that the injury to Edmunds is season-ending, and ESPN reported he has a torn chest muscle.
He would be the fourth key player to be out long term after quarterback Jaxson Dart, edge rusher Brian Burns and returner/receiver Braxton Berrios. Edmunds played all 72 defensive snaps last weekend in a loss to New Orleans, and it was not clear when he got hurt.
Edmunds was one of New York’s most prominent free agent signings early in John Harbaugh’s time as coach. Edmunds signed a three-year, $36 million contract in March and led the Giants with 50 tackles.
Newsome is out after getting concussed in the third quarter against the Saints. Tight end Theo Johnson is listed as doubtful with a neck injury and likely to miss a second consecutive game.
Several other players are questionable: offensive tackles Jermaine Eluemunor (calf) and Marcus Mbow (knee), safeties Jevon Holland (concussion) and Tyler Nubin (neck), and cornerback Paulson Adebo (knee).
The Texans ruled out running back David Montgomery (groin), safeties Reed Blankenship (concussion/hand) and Jalen Pitre (shoulder), and tackle Blake Fisher (thumb). Listed as questionable, wide receiver Tank Dell is expected to play his first game since tearing multiple ligaments in his left knee on Dec. 21, 2024.
