Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has claimed that an oil tanker carrying two million barrels of crude oil struck a sea mine south of the Strait of Hormuz.
Tasnim News Agency reported on Tuesday night, October 20, that the claim was made by the IRGC Navy’s public relations office.
According to the report, the IRGC alleged that the tanker had switched off all its radar and navigation systems.
Iran considers the southern route through the Strait of Hormuz, which runs along the coast of Oman, illegal. It has recently warned that it will take action against ships passing through the route.
Meanwhile, tensions between Iran and the United States over control of the Strait of Hormuz have continued for several months, with no signs of easing.
