How did Raila Jr Honour his dad?
Writing from Kang'o Ka Jaramogi, the family home and mausoleum in Bondo, Siaya County, Junior described lighting a candle in his father's honour and reflecting on the small moments that now carry the greatest weight.
"I lit a candle for my Dad, @RailaOdinga, at Kang'o Ka Jaramogi, with a heart full of love and memories. Jakom, it's been a year, but it feels like yesterday when I would open the door for you after one of your many trips," he wrote.
He closed the tribute with a tender farewell:
"Forever in our hearts. Rest well, Baba."
Raila passed away on October 15, 2025, aged 80, after suffering a cardiac arrest while undergoing medical treatment in Kerala, India.
His death brought to a close a towering political career spanning several decades, one defined by his central role in Kenya's push for multiparty democracy, constitutional reform and social justice.
The night before the anniversary, on Wednesday, October 14, the Odinga family gathered at Kang'o Ka Jaramogi for a candle-lighting ceremony.
Mama Ida Odinga led the gathering, which also drew family members, religious leaders and local officials.
Supporters across Kenya and beyond were encouraged to join in remembrance, and the evening ended with a night vigil and a fireworks display.
The main anniversary event is part of a three-day programme coordinated by the Raila Odinga Memorial Committee, centred at Migwena Cultural and Sports Ground in Bondo, Siaya County.
The commemorations drew Kenyans from across the country, gathering to reflect on the former prime minister's life, his decades of public service and his lasting imprint on the nation's political story.

How did Junior honour his dad with his iconic Hummer?
In a related story, Junior shared a TikTok video showcasing his late father's refurbished red Hummer, popularly known as Nyundo, bearing the message, “Baba, the legacy continues.”
The vehicle gained prominence during Raila's 2007 presidential campaign but remained unused for years before being restored.
The video was shared shortly before the first anniversary of the former prime minister's death on October 15, 2026.
