Chelsea goalkeeper Emi Martinez has confirmed he will be back “in a few weeks” after undergoing an operation.
The Chelsea medical staff ended up attending to the Argentina international on the pitch for around ten minutes before being able to move him onto a stretcher.
Speaking at full-time, Blues manager Xabi Alonso offered an update: “As far as I know, he left the stadium conscious. Now he is in the hospital doing precautionary tests.
“Let’s see, but this is what I know so far.”
And now Martinez has provided an update of his own, confirming he’s had surgery on a suspected fractured jaw but is already eyeing a return to action.
"Thanks to everyone for the messages,” he wrote on social media. The operation went well.
"The most important thing is that we won, and kept a clean sheet. In a few weeks we'll be back."
Martinez had put in an impressive performance against Everton before being withdrawn, playing a big part in Chelsea keeping a Premier League clean sheet for the first time since January.
"We are really pleased. Shame for Emi [Martinez] but we wish you all the best. This win is for him," Neto told TNT Sports.
"We needed a clean sheet to be honest. I think we did a very good game. Emi deserved this, Mike [Penders] did as well.
"It's really important. We know it's tough to play away, even at home there are no easy games. We came here with personality, with good intentions to win the match and really happy with the result."
