Rani Mukerji and Masaba Gupta were among the celebrities who attended Indian fashion designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee’s Diwali party at the New York City’s iconic Metropolitan Museum of Art on Friday. The annual Met Gala is hosted at this venue.
Guests turned up in Sabyasachi creations for the Diwali bash, with the fashion mix featuring gorgeous lehengas, sarees and the designer's signature embellished long jackets.
At the event, the Bollywood actress stole the attention of the crowd with her sheer metallic sari, which she paired up with oversized black square-frame eyeglasses.
She kept her accessories minimal, letting her bold red lips add a striking pop of colour to the look.
Meanwhile, fashion designer-actress Masaba Gupta stunned in a masterful fusion of sleek modern evening wear and heritage Indian craftsmanship.
She opted an ivory-white strapless corset-style gown and a Sabyasachi custom made massive, multi-hued statement collar necklace. It features an organic, heavy gold framework encrusted with multi-colored gemstones, including sapphire-blue, deep red, and dark enamel or onyx stones nestled into sculpted shapes.
For the event, Sabyasachi wore a black velvet bandhgala sherwani / bandhgala suit paired with his signature thick-rimmed glasses featuring red-tinted lenses.
The event was also attended by entrepreneur Anjula Acharia and actor Kal Penn, among others.
In August, Sabyasachi joined hands with The Met, and announced an exclusive jewellery line inspired by the art and history preserved in the America’s largest museum’s vast 5,000-year-old collection, ahead of this year’s New York Fashion Week, which happened in September.
Sabyasachi Mukherjee’s involvement with The Met first began with the annual fundraiser event, Met Gala. He made history in 2024 as the first Indian fashion designer to walk the Met Gala red carpet.
He also dressed actors Alia Bhatt and Shah Rukh Khan for the event.
