KUALA LUMPUR: Commuters on the upcoming East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) will enjoy a 30 per cent discount on all economy-class tickets during its first month of operations, Transport Minister Anthony Loke said.
He said the ECRL was targeted to begin operations by mid-December, with Dec 12 as the target date.
"Ticket sales are expected to open soon ahead of the launch.
"In conjunction with the opening of ECRL, a 30 per cent discount will be given to the public for all economy tickets for one month, beginning from the start of operations," he told reporters after opening Transport Expo Asia 2026.
Loke said the discount was for passengers not eligible for special fares.
He said the ECRL would also offer concessionary fares for selected groups.
"Children aged two to 12, Malaysian senior citizens aged 60 and above, persons with disabilities and government pensioners will enjoy a 50 per cent fare discount, while students aged 13 to 24 will receive a 40 per cent discount," he said.
Yesterday, Malaysia Rail Link Sdn Bhd (MRL) chief executive officer Datuk Seri Darwis Abdul Razak said economy-class fares for the Gombak-Kota Baru ECRL service would start at RM125 one way for Transit services and RM147 for Express services.
Fares for Gombak-Kuala Terengganu start at RM95 for Transit and RM110 for Express, while Gombak-KotaSAS fares start at RM60 and RM68 respectively.
The 523km ECRL will link Kota Baru, Kelantan, with the Integrated Transport Terminal Gombak (ITT Gombak), connecting the east coast states of Kelantan, Terengganu and Pahang with Selangor.
