PETALING JAYA: A reporter's recollections of a large-scale drug trafficking operation near the Sentul police station a decade ago have raised the ire of Kuala Lumpur police chief Fadil Marsus who described it as unwarranted publicity that "sparks a negative perception of the police force and impacts its image and credibility".
The reporter's recollections were made in a podcast published on YouTube yesterday evening in which he recalled how he had hidden in a vacant temple in Sentul for three to four days to observe the drug-trafficking operation for himself.
In a 2:30s video snippet published on TikTok, the reporter remarked: “What defies logic is that the den was operating openly as a drug distribution hub right in front of a major police station, without being raided at all”.
Fadil said the incident took place on July 12, 2016, and had led to three police reports being lodged. He urged the public to be more responsible when sharing or circulating information.
“The police remain committed to maintaining integrity and public confidence in the institution,” he said in a statement.
In the full YouTube podcast, Azrul Affandi Sobry recollects his experiences as a teacher and how he entered journalism with Berita Harian, earning six awards before he left.
