Guwahati, Oct 12: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday visited the family of Himashree Boro at Chapai village and assured them of government assistance, while calling for a thorough investigation into her death in Andhra Pradesh.
Boro died under mysterious circumstances on her way back to Assam from Visakhapatnam via a train early October. Sarma said the state government had sent an Inspector General of Police (IGP) of Assam Police to investigate the incident amid suspicions raised by the family and members of the public.
“Since the family and the public have suspicions regarding this incident, we have dispatched an Inspector General of Police (IGP) of Assam Police there to investigate the entire incident,” Sarma told reporters after meeting the family.
The chief minister said he had also written to Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, seeking an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Boro’s death.
“Today, I met with the grieving family members and expressed my condolences,” he said, adding that the government would extend financial assistance to the family.
Describing the family as economically vulnerable, Sarma said the state government would provide support in every possible way.
“The government will provide financial assistance in every possible way, and we will ensure everything necessary is done so that the incident is investigated and the truth comes to light,” he said.
The chief minister reiterated that the government would take steps to ensure a thorough probe into the incident.
