PETALING JAYA: National mixed doubles pair Hoo Pang Ron-Lai Pei Jing continued their impressive run at the French Open today with a superb victory over German giant-killers Marvin Seidel-Nguyen Thuc Phuong to reach the semi-finals.
The Malaysians, ranked world No 31, overcame their 27th-ranked opponents 21-17, 20-22, 21-18 in 55 minutes at the World Tour Super 750 event at the Arena Grand Paris.
They will face either Denmark's world No 3 duo Mathias Christiansen-Alexandra Boje or China's world No. 6 pair Guo Xin Wai-Chen Fang Hui in the semi-finals tomorrow.
Pang Ron, 28, and Pei Jing, 34, have been impressive since they started playing together in May despite facing younger and higher-ranked opponents.
They were runners-up at the China Open last month, and reached the semi-finals at the Denmark Open last week. Both tournaments are Super 750 events.
Marvin-Nguyen had knocked out China’s world No 2 pair Jiang Zhen Bang-Wei Ya Xin in the second round.
The Germans had earlier defeated Malaysia’s top mixed doubles duo Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Jemie Lai in the first round.
