The fire is being investigated by the Cape Breton Regional Police arson investigator.
A release posted on the Nova Scotia Crime Stoppers website on Thursday, nine days after the fire that left three apartments unliveable, said security saw two individuals at the scene the day of the fire.
As reported by the Cape Breton Post, the Glace Bay Volunteer Fire Department first responded to an emergency call around 4:40 p.m. on Oct. 6 for an ATV (all-terrain vehicle, commonly called a four-wheeler) on fire at 141 Cottage Rd., Glace Bay.
Upon arrival, firefighters found the fire had spread to the house – which had been converted into three apartments – and the front of the buiding was fully engulfed by the blaze. The call was redispatched as a structure fire and residents in the back unit were evacuated. No one was in the other two units.
Security was put on the property to secure the scene and they saw two people near a trailer on the 141 Cottage Road property the night of the fire, which they reported to police.
One individual is described as a male wearing a white ball cap and red hooded sweater. The other was wearing a dark hooded jacket. Both fled the property once Cape Breton Regional Police were called.
Cape Breton Regional Police are asking anyone with information about these people or the Oct. 6 fire to contact them through the non-emergency number at 902-563-5151. Information can be provided anonymously through Nova Scotia Crime Stoppers by phone at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), by using the P3 Tips app or online.
A cash reward is available to tips to Crime Stoppers which lead to an arrest.
