The idea is for him to attend a boarding high school after concluding that he could no longer manage the boy's behaviour on his own.
Parent's Honest Admission
The father shared his situation on Facebook, appealing to Kenyans for school recommendations and being candid about the reasoning behind his choice.

"Sometimes as a parent you have to make some painful life decisions," he wrote, acknowledging that he had fallen short in some areas of his son's upbringing.
He admitted that he had failed in some ways and asked people not to suggest alternative parenting approaches, as his mind was already made up.
His son, who has grown up within the American schooling system, has reportedly become difficult to manage.
What the Father Is Looking For
With the father unable to provide the close supervision the teenager needs right now, he decided that Kenya, with its tradition of strict boarding school culture, offered the best environment for the boy to be shaped up.
A trusted person in Kenya will keep watch over the son during his time there. The father made his priorities clear from the outset.
Discipline is his sole concern. School fees, academic rankings and examination results do not factor into his search at all.
"I do not care about performance, school fees," he wrote. "A school that is going to fine-tune his morals" is what he is after.
He is looking at a stay of between three and five years, enough time, in his view, for his son to be moulded into a responsible young man before returning to the United States.
The appeal struck a nerve with many Kenyans familiar with the reputation that certain boarding institutions carry for instilling discipline through structured routines, strict rules and limited outside influence.
Kenya's boarding high school system, particularly national and extra-county schools, has long been associated with producing focused, disciplined graduates, partly because of the controlled environment they offer.
For this father, that environment is exactly what his son needs.
