To help “Made in Myanmar” goods conquer international markets, UMFCCI President U Aye Win has called for a robust packaging supply chain. Speaking at the Myanmar Packaging Forum 2026 in Yangon on 10 October, he emphasized that world-class packaging is vital for global competitiveness.
The forum was organized to discuss the development of the packaging sector as a driver of business competitiveness, and to promote the upgrading of Myanmar’s packaging industry through innovation and technology. It brought together officials, experts, and business operators to exchange views.
Union Minister for Industry and MSME Development Dr Charlie Than delivered remarks via video clip. Yangon Region Minister for Electricity, Energy, Industry and Transport Dr Myo Thaw and Myanmar Industries Association Chairman U Aye Tun also gave the opening remarks, respectively.
If we want ‘Made in Myanmar’ products to compete with dignity in international markets, we need to build a strong packaging industry supply chain capable of producing packaging within Myanmar, U Aye Win said.
Although the packaging sector is a key supporting industry for all other sectors, it has not been designated as a priority sector and continues to be treated merely as an incidental byproduct. He highlighted official recognition of packaging as an essential, driving industrial sector, a dedicated industrial zone for packaging, stable electricity supply, priority on imports for capital machinery and a “Green Channel” or expedited licensing process for key raw materials used in packaging.
The seminar and panel discussion also followed. Relevant officials answered questions raised by attendees during an open Q&A session, according to UMFCCI. — NN/KK
