Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has charged 1,800 graduating law enforcement officers to uphold integrity, discipline and professionalism in the discharge of their duties, stressing that public trust is essential to effective law enforcement.
In a statement posted on the Lagos State Government’s X account, the governor gave the charge in an address delivered on his behalf by the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Lawal Pedro, SAN, at the 2026 Passing-Out Parade of the Lagos State Law Enforcement Training Institute (LETI), held at the Public Service Staff Development Centre, Magodo, on Thursday, October 15, 2026.
The ceremony marked the completion of mandatory in-service training by 1,800 officers drawn from seven agencies: Vehicle Inspection Service (VIS), Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI), Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC), Central Business District (CBD), Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPA) and Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA).

Sanwo-Olu emphasised that effective law enforcement goes beyond the exercise of authority, noting that it also requires fairness, accountability, respect for citizens’ rights and responsible public service.
He urged the officers to exercise their powers with restraint, obey the law and demonstrate professionalism in their daily responsibilities.

The governor also stressed the importance of public cooperation in maintaining order, calling on residents, businesses and community leaders to obey lawful directives, respect public regulations and protect public infrastructure.
However, he noted that cooperation from residents must be matched by fairness, accountability and respect for citizens’ rights on the part of law enforcement personnel.
Sanwo-Olu commended LETI for strengthening the capacity of law enforcement officers through continuous training, noting that Lagos needed competent, disciplined and technologically aware personnel to address the demands of its rapidly evolving urban environment.

Earlier, the Head and Chief Executive Officer of LETI, Taiwo Bonnie, said the training programme was designed to improve the officers’ professional competence and prepare them for the demands of modern law enforcement.
She disclosed that the training covered law enforcement, technology, teamwork, inter-agency collaboration, health and wellness, stress management, first-response skills, physical fitness and field exercises.
Bonnie urged the graduating officers to apply the knowledge acquired during the programme with integrity, courage, fairness and accountability.
She reminded them that their conduct would determine how members of the public perceive them, stating that while their uniforms represent authority, their character determines the respect they command.
The LETI chief executive reaffirmed the institute’s commitment to the professional development of law enforcement personnel and appreciated the Lagos State Government, participating agencies, facilitators and other partners for supporting the programme.

The Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Justice, Hameed Olanrewaju Oyenuga, alongside other government officials, security agency representatives and stakeholders, attended the ceremony.
The event underscored the importance of continuous training, inter-agency collaboration and responsible law enforcement in promoting safety and order across Lagos State.
