Türkiye's Aksa Elektrik plans to sign agreements within a week to manage power distribution networks in Tashkent, Syrdarya and Jizzakh regions. Chairman and CEO of Kazancı Holding, which owns Aksa Elektrik, Cemil Kazancı announced this in an interview with Uzbekistan 24 TV channel following a meeting with president Shavkat Mirziyoyev on 16 October.
Investments in the distribution networks are aimed at reducing losses, lowering costs and improving energy efficiency.
The company previously won an international tender to manage the power distribution networks in Samarkand region. Under a 30-year agreement, the investor plans to invest $1 billion in the region’s infrastructure. During the first 12 years, the company is required to secure $357 million in direct investment. The project includes the design, financing, construction, operation and maintenance of low-voltage networks.
According to the regional hokimiyat (administration), the Turkish side has completed an audit of critical sections of the network and developed 440 projects. The region plans to upgrade 1,000 transformers and replace worn-out power poles and transmission lines. The purchase of mobile generators and specialized equipment is also being considered.
Aksa Elektrik’s sister company, Aksa Enerji, is also active in electricity generation in Uzbekistan. It has built two power plants in Tashkent region and one in Bukhara region, with a combined capacity of 740 MW. In December 2024, a ceremony was held to commission another 400 MW power plant in Nishan district of Kashkadarya region.
To date, Aksa Enerji has invested $750 million in Uzbekistan. “We will continue our activities in electricity and gas distribution as well,” Cemil Kazancı said.
