Advertorial for MyFiji
Franki Hobson
Fiji starts with a song. Serenaders strum island tunes upon arrival at Nadi Airport, and “Bula!” echoes from every direction. My Fiji guests sidestep the queue through a priority lane, and beyond immigration, the concierge team greets the family with shell necklaces and a bag of holiday goodies. Warm, tropical air hits as the terminal doors slide open, and an express shuttle whisks everyone to Radisson Blu Resort Fiji on Denarau Island, where a dedicated My Fiji desk handles check-in.
The suite life
Palms and waterfalls fill the resort’s 10 acres of gardens, and your Garden View One Bedroom Suite looks straight over them. Inside, there’s 78 square metres of space, with a separate living room where the kids can claim the sofa bed as their own. A laundry takes care of five days of salt-crusted swimmers, while the kitchenette fits a haul of tropical fruit from Nadi’s produce market, a stop on the resort’s weekly town tour.

At Blu Banana Kids’ Club, four to 12-year-olds get stuck into arts and crafts, nature adventures and Fijian cultural activities. They’ll soon be greeting everyone with “bula” (hello) and “vinaka” (thank you). There are four lagoon pools to explore, including a kids’ pool with a whitewater tunnel slide. For more splashing and sliding, Big Bula Waterpark^ is a short walk away, while the resort’s private beach offers paddleboarding and kayaking. At VOU Hub*, younger children can join Moko the Lizard and Lulu the Owl on an Afternoon Arts Adventure through Fiji’s rivers, forests and caves, with plenty of singing included.
Fiji after dark
At Lomani Wai, traditional Fijian fare is served under the stars with your feet in the water, followed by a kava tasting. Down the road at VOU Hub*, the Broadway-style Fiji Untold brings the mythical Fijian underworld to the stage, complete with octopus gods, giants and a shape-shifting iguana spirit.
Back at the resort, dinner ranges from Lebanese mezze at Byblos and Thai at Chantara to Italian at Basilico and themed buffet nights with live entertainment at Blu Restaurant.
Island days, spa time
Save a day for Malamala Beach Club. A 25-minute boat ride from Port Denarau delivers the family to a tiny island in the Mamanucas, ringed by white sand and small enough to walk around in under 20 minutes. My Fiji guests settle onto their own deck, with dedicated hosts and Malamala butlers bringing handcrafted cocktails^, while families snorkel off the beach or float in the infinity pool. A mid-afternoon Malamala Pop is part of the VIP treatment.
On a resort day, parents can book in for a massage or facial at Harmony Spa, which uses natural Fijian ingredients. Or make time for beachside sunrise yoga and a drink at the swim-up bar.
On departure day, the resort’s Fiji Airways check-in counter takes the bags, leaving time for one last swim and a round of “moce” (goodbye) before the shuttle.
