Fomo is not getting into the token factory business.
On October 25, 2026, Se Yong Park, co-founder of the social trading app fomo, pushed back on rumors that the company planned to launch a Solana-based token platform or take on Pump.fun directly. His reasoning was simple: the market already has too many tokens.
What Park actually said
Park’s comments targeted two specific rumors. The first was that fomo would roll out its own token launch platform on Solana. The second was that it intended to compete head-to-head with Pump.fun, the chain’s best-known memecoin launchpad.
He denied both. According to Park, fomo’s core mission is helping strong trading communities grow, not minting fresh coins.
The numbers behind fomo
Fomo is not a scrappy side project. The app debuted roughly in May 2025 and was founded by former members of the dYdX team, the group behind one of crypto’s better-known derivatives exchanges.
In June 2026, fomo raised $75 million in a Series B round. That deal valued the company at approximately $550 million.
That model leans heavily on the social side of trading. Fomo offers copy trading, which lets users mirror the moves of other traders. It also runs real-time feeds showing what traders are doing as it happens.
Fomo makes money through fees, charging approximately 0.5% on spot trades. It has no token of its own. That last detail matters, because it means the company’s revenue depends on trading activity rather than token sales or speculation on a native coin.
The platform operates primarily on Solana, though it plans to expand its capabilities to other platforms.
Background: the Pump.fun rivalry
Pump.fun launched in January 2024 and quickly became the dominant memecoin launchpad on Solana. Its pitch was making token creation trivially easy, which helped fuel an explosion of new coins on the network.
Fomo and Pump.fun have increasingly found themselves competing for the same users. Both apps introduced cross-chain bridges in October 2026, a move aimed at widening their reach beyond a single blockchain.
On revenue, Pump.fun has historically held the edge. Over 30-day windows, it has led fomo. But fomo has posted strong individual trading days, a sign that the battle for Solana market share is far from settled.
What this means for traders and the Solana market
Park’s denial draws a clear line between two business models. Pump.fun built its empire on token creation. Fomo is trying to build one on trading experience and community.
Fomo choosing not to launch a token platform suggests a few things. First, it is confident its fee-based revenue can carry the business without the extra income a launchpad might generate.
Second, it keeps fomo’s neutrality intact. A trading venue that also launches tokens faces an obvious conflict: it profits from both the launch and the trading that follows. Staying out of issuance removes that question entirely.
The cross-chain push adds another variable. Both apps are now reaching beyond Solana, which means the competition may not stay confined to one ecosystem for long.
For now, fomo is staking its approximately $550 million valuation on the bet that traders want a better place to trade, not more things to trade. Whether the 30-day revenue numbers eventually follow those strong single days is the scoreboard to watch.
