Ben Kindel is conscious and in stable condition, Pittsburgh announced.
Shortly after the team's plane took off from Salt Lake City, where they had played Utah in the NHL, it was forced to turn around and land after Kindel fell ill. The team doctor was on board, and an ambulance was waiting when they landed to take Kindel to a hospital in Utah.
Pittsburgh said it would release more information when appropriate.
