Prudential Zenith Life Insurance Limited (PZL) has reinforced its commitment to environmental, social and governance (ESG) principles, donating 200 overalls and 100 traffic cones to the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) to improve sanitation workers’ safety and support a cleaner urban environment.
The donation, made to mark World Environment Day 2026, underscores the insurer’s position that environmental sustainability goes beyond protecting the natural environment to include safeguarding the people and public services that keep communities healthy, safe and productive.
The overalls are expected to provide sanitation workers with protective clothing, while the traffic cones will improve the visibility of field crews and help protect workers and road users during waste management operations.
For Prudential Zenith, the initiative reflects the connection between environmental responsibility, worker welfare and community resilience, with safer working conditions and effective waste management contributing to a healthier city and better living conditions for residents.
Samuel Ohonusi, executive director/COO of Prudential Zenith Life Insurance, said a healthy environment was fundamental to resilient communities and sustainable business.
“Our partnership with LAWMA is an investment in the safety and dignity of those who keep Lagos clean, and in the wellbeing of the people who depend on a safer, more organised city,” Ohonusi said.
He added that the donated equipment would help protect sanitation workers and support the systems that enable communities to thrive.
Receiving the items on behalf of LAWMA, Muyiwa Gbadegesin, managing director/CEO thanked the insurer for the support, noting that the equipment would improve the safety and visibility of sanitation personnel.
He said the partnership reflected a shared commitment to a cleaner and safer Lagos, urging other organisations to support efforts to improve environmental sanitation and community wellbeing.
The initiative highlights Prudential Zenith’s approach to ESG, which links corporate responsibility with practical interventions that address environmental and social needs. By supporting the frontline personnel responsible for waste management, the insurer is contributing to safer workplaces, cleaner neighbourhoods and more sustainable urban development.
As Lagos continues to grapple with the demands of urban growth and environmental sanitation, partnerships between businesses and public agencies can help strengthen the capacity of essential services while improving the safety of the people who deliver them.
