Cyber crime police arrested two men from Coimbatore for allegedly swindling ₹46.50 lakh from an elderly man in Karaikudi under the pretext of a digital arrest.
According to police, the elderly resident of Karaikudi in Sivaganga district received a mobile call from individuals posing as Bengaluru police officials. The callers threatened him with a ‘digital arrest,’ claiming that his Aadhaar card had been misused in illegal activities, and demanded money to clear him of the charges.
Believing the threat, the senior citizen transferred ₹46.50 lakh to the bank accounts provided by the callers. Realising later that he had been cheated, he lodged a complaint with the district cybercrime police wing.
Following a case registration, police tracked down and arrested Hitesh Sanashetti, 33, and Syed Rahman, 44, both hailing from Coimbatore.
