Dmitry Pirogov, the head of Yandex Pay’s fintech division, announced that the company has restored access to transfers and payments for some users.
“Many of you can already see your money and manage it. We’re restoring access gradually so the service can handle the load. If some functionality isn’t available to you yet, please wait a little longer,” he wrote in the payment service’s Telegram channel.
Pirogov stressed that the service “is still operating unstably”: some functions remain unavailable, and errors are possible during certain operations.
Yandex Pay also announced special terms for users from October 11–17, covering savings accounts as well as loan payments.
From the start, we built our infrastructure so that data on transactions would be replicated simultaneously across multiple data centers, because we work with literally the most valuable data our users have: data about their money. After the recent drone attacks on our data centers, our engineers had to completely rebuild the infrastructure in order to preserve this key principle and restore access to familiar functions. That’s why our service was hit especially hard, and recovery is taking longer.
In recent days, Ukraine has struck three of the six data centers belonging to Yandex: facilities in the Ryazan region, Kaluga, and Vladimir. Many services run by Yandex itself, as well as by its clients, went down.
