The House of Representatives has adjourned its plenary sitting to Thursday to enable members to attend the inauguration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council ahead of the 2027 general election.
The Speaker, Abbas Tajudeen, announced the adjournment during plenary following the adoption of a motion to that effect.
The inauguration is scheduled to take place at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Wednesday, October 14, with President Bola Tinubu expected to lead the expanded campaign council.
The council is tasked with coordinating the APC’s mobilisation, stakeholder engagement, media communication and other campaign activities as Tinubu seeks re-election in 2027.
Under the revised composition, Tinubu will serve as chairman, with Vice-President Kashim Shettima and APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, as vice-chairmen.
Former Zamfara State Governor, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, will serve as Director-General, while Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma will be the secretary.
Other key members include Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni, Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele, Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin and Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu.
The expanded council also features politicians who are not members of the APC, including Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke and Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo.
Wike has been assigned to coordinate the campaign in Rivers State and the FCT, while Adeleke and Soludo will oversee campaign activities in Osun and Anambra states, respectively.
The inclusion of the three politicians highlights the APC’s effort to broaden its political alliances and mobilise support beyond its traditional party structure.
The revised list also provides for state-level campaign coordination, with APC governors expected to lead mobilisation in states controlled by the party.
In states where the APC does not hold the governorship, the party has designated other political figures, including its governorship candidates, to coordinate its campaign.
The council is expected to oversee the party’s campaign strategy, grassroots mobilisation and engagement with political stakeholders ahead of the 2027 elections.
