Bangladeshi photojournalist S M Al Muztaba Rosul has won first place in the Top News - Singles category of the 12th Andrei Stenin International Press Photo Contest 2026.
According to a press release, Rosul travelled to Moscow, Russia, to attend the award ceremony and the opening of the accompanying photography exhibition. The contest is organised by Rossiya Segodnya, a Russian state-owned news agency.
His photographic work focuses on human life, journalists' work and experiences, and the realities and consequences of climate change. Through documentary photography, he portrays people's everyday lives, struggles, professional responsibilities, and the social and environmental challenges arising from a changing climate.
The award ceremony and exhibition opening took place on 21 October at the Museum of Moscow, located at 2 Zubovsky Boulevard, Building 1. The exhibition will continue until 10 November. Selected photographs from the competition will also be displayed in cities worldwide as part of its international exhibition programme.
Established in 2014 in memory of Russian photojournalist Andrei Stenin, the annual competition showcases emerging photojournalists from around the world and promotes documentary photography and visual journalism.
Two other Bangladeshi photojournalists, Muhammad Emdad Hossain and Solayman Hossain, also travelled to Russia to attend the ceremony. Both received awards in their respective categories, marking another achievement for Bangladeshi photojournalism on the international stage.
Rosul expressed gratitude to Rossiya Segodnya, the contest organising committee, the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Bangladesh and the Russian House in Dhaka for their support and cooperation in facilitating his participation in the event.
