POLICE are investigating two separate murders that occurred just hours apart in New Providence on Friday night, leaving two men, aged 37 and 25, dead.
In the first incident, police received reports shortly before 9pm that a man had been shot on Old Cedar Way, off Blue Hill Road.
Three masked men reportedly approached the victim’s residence and opened fire through an eastern window, striking him multiple times before fleeing the scene.
The victim was taken to hospital in a private vehicle before officers arrived.
Detectives subsequently visited the hospital, where medical personnel informed them that the victim was about to undergo surgery. However, around 11pm, police were notified that the 37-year-old man had died from his injuries.
In the second incident, ShotSpotter technology detected gunfire in the area of Flint and Comfort Streets around 11.30pm.
Police said the 25-year-old victim was in the area when the occupants of a dark-coloured vehicle approached and opened fire in his direction.
The victim attempted to escape by running north along Comfort Street but collapsed on the western side of the road.
His assailants fled the scene.
Responding officers found the man, who was dressed in a black shirt and black shorts, unresponsive with multiple gunshot wounds.
Emergency Medical Services personnel examined the victim and confirmed that he showed no signs of life.
Investigations into both murders are ongoing.
