KBN TV founder Kennedy Mambwe steps away
Official statement:
Lusaka – KBN TV wishes to announce the appointment of Mwewa Besa as its Chairman with immediate effect.
Besa takes over executive functions from its founder, Pastor Kennedy Mambwe, who has stepped away from the business to pursue other personal interests.
Besa is an accomplished banker, business strategist and transformational leader.
He is a seasoned Banker with over two decades of experience and is currently the Executive Director of TransFrontier Management Services Limited and the immediate Past President of the Zambia Institute of Marketing and brings extensive experience to lead KBN TV to its next growth phase.
Commenting on the appointment, Pastor Mambwe said: “KBN TV has grown significantly over the past seven years in its influence and national footprint, reaching millions of viewers daily across multiple platforms. Going forward, the media house requires new leadership to take this growth to the next level, and we are confident that Mr. Besa is the right fit for this challenge.”
KBN TV, which commenced broadcasting on 19th June 2019, has grown to become a major independent voice promoting public participation in governance and providing a platform for divergent views and freedom of expression.
Accepting the appointment, Besa said: “I am grateful for the confidence that the KBN TV leadership has demonstrated in entrusting me with this exciting challenge to lead a vibrant team of young and talented media creatives. We will continue to be relevant as a trusted media house and ensure that we uphold the highest standards of journalism.”
In the last election in which the ruling UPND dominated both private and public media space, KBN TV gained admiration and respect ordinary Zambians for remaining fiercely independent.
As the UPND regime increased its crackdown on dissent, the IBA last month announced a one month suspension of KBN TV.
