While it is still early in the season, people are already talking about the NFL draft, and ESPN scouting veteran Mel Kiper has released his Top 25 list for the draft class of 2027. It has Ohio State wide receiver Jeremiah Smith at No. 1, but surprised many with Drew Mestemaker from Oklahoma State at No. 2, making him the analyst’s top-rated quarterback.
Despite Kiper’s draft expertise, his picks raised eyebrows among fans, with many taking to social media to let the world know what they thought. He infamously predicted Sanders would be picked No. 3 overall but the quarterback eventually landed in the 5th round to the Cleveland Browns.
“Didn’t he have Shedeur at the top of his list too? Yikes. He’s the OG, but the scouting game may have passed him by,” said one fan.
Kiper noted that this is not a mock draft and that this is not a prediction, just a personal ranking of the players he thinks are the best so far. He based it on his own evaluations, and some of these players will rise and fall as the season goes on.
CBS Draft Analyst Also Has Drew Mestemaker as His Top QB, But Ranked Lower
Meanwhile, CBS Sports also released its own draft rankings, and draft expert Mike Renner also has Ohio State’s Jeremiah Smith at No. 1. However, Drew Mestemaker is ranked lower at No. 4, though he is still the top quarterback in this one.
Renner has Notre Dame cornerback Leonard Moore at No. 2 and South Carolina EDGE Dylan Stewart at No. 3, with Mestemaker at No. 4 and Texas EDGE Collin Simmons completing the top five. The analyst noted that this is still early in the season, so things could still change.
