The police have forwarded the case docket on Obuasi Senior High Technical School (SHTS) headmaster Zakaria Abdulai to the Attorney General for study and advice following an investigation into a rape complaint filed by a student.
Bekwai Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Lloyd Baidoo, disclosed this on JoyNews’ Top Story on Tuesday, October 20, 2026.
He said the Ashanti South Police Command had completed its investigation into the complaint and was awaiting further instructions from the Attorney General.
“They have done the investigation, and we have forwarded the case docket to the Attorney General for study and advice. And we, the police, or the Ashanti South Command, are only to patiently wait for further instruction by the Attorney General,” he said.
ASP Baidoo said the police would act on any directives issued by the Attorney General.
The police spokesperson clarified that the investigation and docket submitted to the Attorney General concern a single complaint filed by a student on August 4, 2026.
He said the police could investigate other allegations if additional complainants formally reported them.
“In respect of the other matters involving the 19 girls that you are talking about, if they come to police notice, police will subsequently move in and investigate the matter,” he said.
The distinction means the case docket currently before the Attorney General relates to the individual complaint investigated by police, rather than all the allegations reported in connection with the school.
ASP Baidoo encouraged other students who allege they were abused to lodge official complaints at their nearest police station.
“As to the series of cases they are now informing us of, all those parties can just make an official complaint to the nearest police station, and we’ll ensure that we take over and investigate thoroughly,” he said.
He also said a report compiled by the Ghana Education Service (GES) committee could be submitted to the police and treated as a complaint to facilitate further investigations.
The allegations involving the Obuasi SHTS headmaster have sparked national concern, with at least 19 girls reportedly alleging abuse.
The GES has interdicted Mr Abdulai, while the Education Ministry has directed the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to investigate the allegations. The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has also directed him to step aside from the Juaben Constituency Chairmanship race pending the ongoing process.
The submission of the police docket to the Attorney General marks the next stage in the handling of the complaint filed on August 4.
Further action by the police will depend on the Attorney General’s advice.
