Key Facts
- Nexa Resources rose 1.79% to US$13.11 on Tuesday 13 October, its first gain after a 2.42% fall on Monday.
- Buenaventura, a large Peruvian miner, fell 2.48% to US$31.50, so the two Peruvian-linked names split.
- Southern Copper fell 0.61% to US$207.42, as the metals complex stayed soft.
- The US dollar index fell 0.36% to 102.2, which usually helps commodity shares.
- We found no prediction market on zinc, so this wrap uses share prices only.
Today’s Focus
Zinc-linked shares split on Tuesday 13 October. Nexa Resources, the Brazilian and Peruvian zinc producer, gained 1.79% to US$13.11.
Buenaventura, a large Peruvian miner, fell 2.48% to US$31.50. Buenaventura mines gold, silver and base metals, so zinc is only one driver of its shares.
We could not confirm the zinc price for the day. The moves therefore reflect company and sector trading.
What matters today. Nexa is the cleanest US-listed zinc bellwether in Latin America, so a rebound after Monday’s fall matters to investors who follow Andean base metals.
01 The session in one read
Nexa rose 1.79% to US$13.11 on Tuesday 13 October. That recovered most of Monday’s 2.42% fall.
Buenaventura fell 2.48% to US$31.50. Southern Copper, which also produces zinc, fell 0.61%.
Assessment — A bounce in one name LOW
Only Nexa rose, and no news explains it. One stock’s move after a fall is weak evidence of a trend.
The variable to watch is whether Nexa holds above US$13. A close below it would cancel the bounce.
02 The board
The board shows a split rather than a trend. Gold and silver miners fell on the day, which weighed on Buenaventura.
Nexa moved against the sector, which suggests a company-specific bounce after Monday’s drop. We found no news to confirm a cause.

The session read
The Ibovespa eased 1.04%, with breadth positive — 3 of 5 names higher. COLCAP led, while BVL PERÚ lagged.
03 What moved it
We could not confirm a single driver for Tuesday. The dollar index fell 0.36% to 102.2, which usually supports commodity shares.
Without company news, the split reads as positioning after Monday’s moves and not as a verdict on zinc demand. One session is too short to show a trend.
04 The Latin American read
Peru is among the world’s largest zinc producers, and Mexico is also a major supplier. Zinc is used mainly to galvanise steel against rust.
That link ties the metal to construction and infrastructure spending across the hemisphere. Slower building would therefore weigh on zinc demand.
05 The names to watch
Nexa Resources is the cleanest listed zinc bellwether in Latin America. Its Peruvian and Brazilian operations make it sensitive to the metal.
Buenaventura offers diversified Andean exposure. Watching the gap between the two tells investors whether pressure is zinc-specific.
06 The outlook
The next sessions will show whether Nexa’s bounce holds. Investors will watch the US$13 level and any Peruvian supply news.
We could not confirm the zinc price on Tuesday, which is the main data gap in this wrap. We therefore quote company shares only.
07 What to watch
- Nexa near US$13: A close below it would cancel Tuesday’s bounce.
- Peruvian mine news: Supply disruptions would lift zinc prices.
- Galvanised steel demand: Steel output sets zinc consumption.
- US consumer prices: The September reading is due on Wednesday 14 October at 12:30 UTC (8:30 am ET).
Background: Nexa Falls 2.42% to US$12.88 as Zinc Miners Retreat.
