American rapper Soulja Boy has hinted that he could run for U.S. president in 2028. He posted the slogan «SOULJA BOY 2028» on Instagram and named the issues he would prioritize. It seems the artist has decided that his music career alone is no longer enough to make bold statements. Kursiv LifeStyle looks at what the rapper is up to and which of his counterparts have tried to get into the White House.
In his post, Soulja Boy described a potential presidential run as a «new chapter» in his career. He identified economic opportunity, criminal justice reform, education, and the future of technology and AI as areas of focus.
«From music to business to technology, I’ve always believed in thinking bigger and challenging what’s possible. Now I’m exploring what it means to bring that same vision to public service. The future starts with a conversation,» the artist wrote.
At the same time, the rapper has yet to announce a formal presidential campaign. It is also unclear which party, if any, he would run with. The announcement could be part of a promotional push for the artist’s new projects, although Soulja Boy has not said so directly.
Soulja Boy, whose real name is DeAndre Cortez Way, rose to fame in the late 2000s with his hit «Crank That (Soulja Boy)» and the dance that accompanied it, which went viral online. Over time, the rapper also became a meme figure, thanks in part to his emotional interviews and bold statements.
Nevertheless, Soulja Boy isn’t the only rapper to express presidential ambitions. In 2020, Kanye West ran as an independent candidate, receiving around 70,000 votes. He later announced plans to run in the 2024 election, but never launched a full campaign.
