A since-deleted episode in a video series released via Purdue Athletics' official YouTube page about the football program's season included AI "generative elements" that altered footage of Ross-Ade Stadium, which was since reposted with the error corrected.
Episode 4 of Boiler Room: Purdue Football All-Access contains highlights from the 41-13 home victory over Minnesota. In one sequence, tight end George Burhenn comes over to the sideline to celebrate the touchdown pass thrown to him by quarterback Ryan Browne.
The two-second video clip, shot from Purdue's west sideline and looking across the field, includes a background of two tiers of stands separated by an electronic ribbon board. In reality, the stands behind the east sideline – shown clearly in the same video seconds before – has only one level with no video board or upper deck.
A statement from the Purdue for Life Foundation, which produces the episodes, said the footage was inadvertently altered during post-production.
That first video was taken down and replaced with a version which does not included the altered footage.
"We occasionally use quality-enhancement plugins to sharpen details in low-resolution footage," Purdue for Life Foundation said in the statement. "The tool is primarily intended for lighting and color correction and uses AI technology, but we were unaware that its newer model could add generative elements.
"We should have caught the alteration during our quality-control process. The episode has been updated to restore the original footage at 7:18, and we apologize for the error and inconvenience."
Purdue is now using AI to make Ross Ade look larger/more crowded.

The statement said the software will not be used in any future footage releases.
