The Dallas Cowboys made three roster moves Tuesday, as they prepare for their Week 7 matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday. Dallas promoted safety Juanyeh Thomas to the active roster, waived cornerback Caelen Carson and signed quarterback Kyle Trask to the practice squad following Joe Milton III’s departure to Philadelphia.
Thomas’ promotion came after he reached the limit of three practice squad elevations this season. He appeared versus the Houston Texans, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Green Bay Packers, making a permanent place on the active roster necessary for him to continue playing. The Cowboys originally brought him back to their practice squad on September 30 after he spent the offseason with the Indianapolis Colts.
Across his first three seasons with Dallas, from 2023 through 2025, Thomas appeared in 36 games, including three starts, and recorded 62 tackles, five pass breakups and one forced fumble. This season, he has four tackles, played 12 defensive snaps and logged 65 snaps on special teams. He is listed behind Markquese Bell at safety on the Cowboys’ unofficial depth chart.

Carson’s departure ends his time with Dallas after being selected in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft out of Wake Forest. He appeared in 17 games and made eight starts over more than two seasons, collecting 45 tackles, one tackle for loss and six pass breakups. He also played in three games this season.
His role diminished as DaRon Bland returned from injury and the Cowboys acquired Joey Porter Jr. in a trade with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Dallas also added Cobie Durant in free agency in March. Porter and Bland are listed as the starting outside cornerbacks, with Durant positioned behind Bland. Shavon Revel Jr. and Ameer Speed are also on the active roster, while Tyrek Funderburk, Derion Kendrick and Reddy Steward remain on the practice squad.
Durant has missed four consecutive games because of a hamstring injury sustained in Week 2. Head coach Brian Schottenheimer said Monday that the cornerback was trending toward playing against the Eagles.
The Cowboys also added Trask to their practice squad to fill the third-quarterback position behind Dak Prescott and Sam Howell. Milton signed with Philadelphia’s active roster last week. Tampa Bay selected Trask 64th overall in the 2021 NFL Draft, and he appeared in seven games over three seasons with the Buccaneers, completing four of 11 passes for 28 yards. He later spent time with the Atlanta Falcons and attended training camp with the Carolina Panthers before being released on August 30.
The transactions follow Dallas’ 23-13 loss to Green Bay Packers, which dropped the Cowboys to 2-4.
