South African media personality Sol Phenduka has weighed in on a shocking dashcam video that went viral on X on 22 October 2026, showing a father fighting off a group of armed hijackers who ambushed him and his children outside their home.

According to reports, the man and his two children had just left their yard late at night when a white vehicle pulled up and blocked their path. The situation turned violent almost immediately, with one attacker pressing a gun against the son's head near the gate while another opened fire on the family.

The father did not hesitate. From inside the car, he drew his own weapon and returned fire through the window, allegedly fatally shooting one of the attackers on the spot. The remaining two hijackers fled the scene but reportedly later succumbed to their wounds.

The vehicle's dashcam captured the entire confrontation from two angles. One view showed the father reaching for his firearm and firing multiple shots out of his window. The street-facing camera recorded the hijackers' car pulling up before the men leapt out with weapons already drawn. During the exchange of gunfire, the father's car collided with a tree, though he continued shooting throughout the ordeal.

Phenduka, reacting to the footage, did not hold back his admiration for the man's courage.

"What a hero," he said, while also reflecting on how terrifying and unpredictable violent crime can be. "So sad that out of the blue, you can be under siege. Attacked so violently," he added.

The video has sparked widespread conversation online, with many South Africans praising the father's instinct to protect his children under extreme pressure.
