In 2023, Manoj Bajpayee headlined the aptly titled film Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai, playing a lawyer who refuses to come under pressure for representing a rape survivor. All it takes is one unwavering man – Bajpayee has come to embody this dogged, obdurate and cussed person, who acts as he pleases and moves sidewinder-like towards justice. Gajab Raat needs exactly such a person.
Ritesh Shah’s Hindi film, co-written with and produced by Neeraj Pandey, stars Bajpayee as Ajay, a lowly Delhi Police inspector who finds himself in charge of a knotty case. A grievously injured young woman has been found lying on a street in Delhi. Her identity is a mystery.
Several important people want to get to her, including social worker Neha (Shraddha Das), the Central Bureau of Investigation’s Madhok (Akshay Oberoi) and the National Investigation Agency’s Karan (Saqib Saleem). They have to get past Ajay, who creates a Great Wall-like barrier with not entirely altruistic motives.
Ajay has a reputation for selling out to the highest bidder. The latest case will prove whether Ajay is a sell-out or a hero.
The cast includes Rajiv Gupta as Ajay’s senior officer, Kiku Sharda as a hotel owner and Nushrratt Bharuccha as one of Ajay’s special friends.

Previously titled Ghooskhor Pandat, Gajab Raat (Strange Night) is out...
