Gusts up to 90km/h will batter Limburg and the southwestern Dutch coastline tonight, with the spell of bad weather lasting all the way until Saturday morning.
You can blame the weather on Storm Austen, a low-pressure area currently making headlines across parts of the UK. As the KNMI reports, Austen is largely responsible for the severe winds hurrying in from the west and southwest.
Here’s what to know.
Be careful on the roads
The KNMI expects gusts of 75 to 90 kilometres per hour to hit Limburg between 5 PM and 11 PM, with winds dying down later that night.
By 7 PM, the winds will hit Zeeland and South Holland, lasting all the way until 9 AM on Saturday morning.
With trees still in full leaf, the KNMI warns that branches may break off and potentially disrupt traffic. If you’re on the roads during the peak of the storm, you’ll want to be extra vigilant for debris.
Meanwhile, many parts of the country will also have to contend with rain. According to Buienradar, several provinces can expect 15 to 25 mm of rainfall, right up to a possible 40 mm.
Another winter storm might be lurking
Behind Austen, Storm Boelo is already moving into position.
Buienradar expects Boelo’s effects to hit the Netherlands by Saturday evening, with bad weather lasting into the night. Should that be the case, we can brace for heavy rainfall, even up to 40 mm locally.
Winds will also pick back up on Saturday evening, with gusts of force 8 (and possibly even force 9) along the west coast.
However, come Sunday, things are largely expected to clear up. Rain is forecast to leave the southeast, gracing us with sunny periods, some light showers, and 15-degree weather.
