BREWERVILLE, Montserrado County, Liberia, Oct. 12, 2026 — A prominent Liberian clergyman has backed growing calls for a “third lane” in the country’s politics ahead of the 2029 elections. He cautioned, however, that any new movement must offer genuine change rather than recycle familiar faces.
He said such moves were part of the reason ordinary citizens “still yearn for something else politically,” and he urged Liberians to be honest with themselves. “They must mean it when they say they want real change,” he said.
The bishop also said the credibility of any third force would depend on who leads it. “Liberians will not buy an empty third lane,” he said. “It can’t be a contest of political rivals who are dissatisfied with one another, or people who want revenge against one another or to fool one another.”
Instead, he called for “a new line-up of sincere and professional Liberians who are genuinely interested in promoting the political, economic, social and religious causes of the ordinary people.”
“UP and CDC are now brand names with big followings,” Brown said. “However, people are still politically thirsty.”
