A 32-year-old man of Chief Mulolo’s area in Chadiza District has taken his own life, an act suspected to have been influenced by the dissolution of marriage with his second wife, and subsequent quarrels with the remaining spouse.
Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer Robertson Mweemba has confirmed the incident to the media
Mr Mweemba has identified the deceased as Yolam Banda, 32, of Chief Mulolo in Chadiza District
He said the incident was reported today October 20, 2026 around 05:30 hours and is alleged to have occurred between 02:30 and 05:00 hours at Ivesi Farm in Chief Mulolo.
Mr Mweemba said the matter was reported by Agrippa Mbuzi, 47, a peasant farmer of Chitsadzi Area who is uncle to the deceased.
“Brief facts are that the deceased had two wives and problems started after his second marriage had misunderstandings. On October 18, 2026, parents of the two dissolved the second marriage,” Mweemba said.
He said on October 19, 2026, the deceased went on a drinking spree and on his return picked a quarrel with his first wife and later left home around 02:00 hours heading to his second wife’s place at Ivesi Farm.
Mr Mweemba said the body was found by a passerby identified as Lyford Miti who alerted the family of the second wife.
He said police officers rushed to the scene and found the body hanging from a tree about 10 meters from his second wife’s house.
Mweemba said a physical inspection was conducted and no foul play is suspected.
He said the family has decided to bury the body.
