The Ministry of Intellectual Property said on the 16th that Minister Kim Yong-sun met with intellectual property executives from LG Group affiliates at LG Science Park in Seoul's Gangseo District on the 15th. Nine executives attended, including LG Electronics Vice President Cho Hwi-jae, along with officials from LG Energy Solution, LG Display, LG Chem, LG Innotek, LG H&H and the LG AI Research Institute.
The ministry said it arranged the meeting to hear the intellectual property difficulties Korean companies face when expanding overseas and to reflect them in policy. LG Group affiliates have recently been building patent barriers by aggressively securing overseas patents. They have also strengthened patent monetization, making effective use of intellectual property in global markets. LG Group shared key intellectual property issues tied to its core technologies and products and conveyed the difficulties its companies are experiencing.
The ministry introduced its policy achievements, including the Everyone's Ideas initiative, a strengthened system to prevent leaks of advanced and core technologies, shorter waiting times for patent and trademark examinations, and expanded intellectual property financing. It also presented the K-Brand government certification system, introduced to stamp out counterfeit goods abroad.
"Based on the voices from corporate front lines, we will strengthen support so that Korean companies can quickly secure intellectual property for core technologies and actively use it in global markets," Kim said.
