One of the challenges that humanoid robot designers face is power management. Agility Robotics Inc. today said it is working with Nyobolt on a fast-recharge battery system for its Digit 5 system. The technology will allow the robot to work more than 20 hours in a day, the companies claimed.
“For our customers, Digit’s uptime is the business case,” stated Daniel Diez, chief business officer at Agility. “Digit 5 will deliver more than 20 hours of productive work in a 24-hour day, more than two full shifts. That’s the kind of gain that materially improves the value customers get from Digit and the economics of deploying a humanoid robot fleet. Nyobolt’s ultra-fast charging technology gets us there, and it’s one of the pieces that makes Digit 5 ready for full-scale operation.”
Founded in 2015, Agility said Digit is “the first multi-purpose, human-centric robot that is ‘Made for Work’ and commercially deployed today.” The Salem, Ore.-based company said it has accumulated more than 65,000 of real-world operations. Last month, it released Digit 5 with new legs and acknowledged that it is considering wheeled locomotion.
Nyobolt builds batteries for fast charging
Founded in 2019, Nyobolt said it has combined proprietary anode materials, advanced battery cell design, and integrated power electronics to enable fast charging, high power density, reduced weight, and extended lifecycles. The Cambridge, U.K.-based company said its technology enables demanding industrial applications and reduces downtime, a key constraint in robot utilization.
Nyobolt said its patent portfolio and global footprint support AI datacenters, physical AI, and mobility applications while reducing the total cost of ownership. In May 2026, the company achieved a $1 billion valuation by raising $60 million including support from Symbotic Inc.
“Nyobolt’s technology was chosen because Digit 5 will need more power from a smaller, lighter pack in environments where reliability isn’t optional,” said Sai Shivareddy, co-founder and CEO of Nyobolt. “Agility set an exceptionally high bar for what a battery has to withstand in live warehouse and manufacturing environments, and this partnership shows what’s possible when ultra-fast charging is engineered for the toughest conditions in physical AI.”
Digit 5 features longer runtime for humanoid customers
Agility described Digit 5 as its first humanoid robot designed to work in close proximity to people safely and at scale. It will include a new battery system that delivers 90 minutes of runtime and charges in just nine minutes. This 10:1 run-to-charge ratio is an improvement from Digit 4’s 2:1 ratio.
The company asserted that this will let Digit 5 customers target longer operating windows, more productive shifts, and more demanding task sequences. Agility said this battery performance, combined with its experience with commercial deployments, will strengthen Digit’s value proposition for warehouse, distribution, and manufacturing operations.
Agility said it expects early access to Digit 5 equipped with Nyobolt’s technology to begin in the first half of 2027. Availability will increase over the following six to nine months, it added.
Agility execs prepare for merger, to speak at RoboBusiness
Agility plans to go public through a merger with special-purpose acquisition firm (SPAC) Churchill Capital Corp XI. In July, Agility opened a software and capabilities hub in Fremont, Calif., to accelerate physical AI development.
Earlier this month, the company partnered with FORT Robotics (which is also entering a SPAC deal) to advance robot safety. In addition, Agility CEO Peggy Johnson has joined Project Meridian, a U.S. Department of War initiative to investigate the future of warfare and inform long-term investment priorities.
At RoboBusiness 2026 next week in Santa Clara, Calif., Jonathan Hurst, co-founder and chief robot officer of Agility, will participate in the opening keynote on “The Next 20 Years of Robotics.” On Day 2 of the event, Pras Velagapudi, chief technology officer of Agility, will participate in a keynote panel on the “State of Humanoids.” Register now to attend.
