WapTV, a family entertainment television channel, has received three awards in October as it marked its 14th anniversary of broadcasting in Nigeria.
The awards recognise the channel’s contributions to children’s programming, inclusion awareness and family entertainment.
The first accolade came on October 10, when Nnenna and Friends, a programme aired on the channel, won the Best Kiddies/Youth Programme of the Year award at the 2026 Nigerian Broadcasters Merit Awards.
The awards ceremony, organised by the Independent Broadcasters Association of Nigeria, was in its seventh edition.
On October 16, WapTV received the Voice of Inclusion Award from the Down Syndrome Foundation of Nigeria in recognition of its efforts to raise awareness about the abilities and characteristics of people living with Down syndrome.
The channel rounded off its October awards with a plaque recognising it as the Outstanding Family Entertainment Media Brand of the Decade at the Edge Awards 2026 on October 19.
The recognitions coincided with the channel’s 14th anniversary, which it celebrated on October 1. WapTV commenced broadcasting on October 1, 2012.
Speaking on the milestones, the Director of WapTV, Wale Adenuga Junior, expressed appreciation to advertisers, viewers, management and staff for their support over the years.
“We are truly grateful to all the advertisers, viewers, management and staff of WapTV who have continued to believe in, and stayed with us for 14 years,” he said.
He urged stakeholders and viewers to continue supporting the channel, noting that it had remained committed to broadcasting entertaining and educational content for families.
“The best part is we have just begun,” he added.
WapTV said it had built a substantial audience through satellite television and digital platforms. Its YouTube channel, waptvchannel, has more than 800,000 subscribers and over 300 million views.
The channel’s latest recognitions come as it continues to expand its reach through family-oriented programming and digital content.
