The CIAC and Hartford Athletic have agreed to a one-year deal to again host the CIAC boys and girls soccer championships at Trinity Health Stadium in Hartford next month.
CIAC executive director Glenn Lungarini said the two organizations agreed to the extension late last week. This is the second straight year that a one-year deal was finalized in October. It is also the second straight year Hartford Athletic has had a new staff, Lungarini said.
"Any time that we have new staff in any venue, it is generally in the best interest of the venue as well as CIAC to engage in a one-year extension," Lungarini said. "It's appropriate that the staff at the venue and the leadership of the venue know and understand what is needed to run a CIAC championship, and it gives the CIAC an opportunity to evaluate that venue under new leadership."
The soccer championship games will be held Nov. 21-22, with four games each day.
All of the soccer finals have been held at Trinity Health since 2021, and the CIAC and Hartford Athletic agreed to a three-year extension in November 2022.
Lungarini said Veterans Stadium in New Britain was also a consideration to host the finals. Veterans has hosted many other CIAC championships in the past, including football. He also said meetings with Hartford Athletic were "exceptional," and he noted the addition of a women's team this past season.
"I'm grateful for our current opportunity to continue to play there and optimistic to work with Hartford Athletic in order to provide our kids with a great soccer experience," Lungarini said.
