The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has welcomed the appointment of Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, as the state coordinator of President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 presidential campaign council.
The party also reaffirmed its support for Tinubu’s re-election bid, while insisting that it would retain its political identity and field candidates for legislative elections in Anambra State.
The National Publicity Secretary of APGA, Dr Ejimofor Opara, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists in Awka on Tuesday.
Opara said Soludo’s appointment recognised his leadership and reflected growing political cooperation between APGA and the Federal Government.
He recalled that APGA had adopted Tinubu as its consensus presidential candidate for the 2027 general election at a meeting of its National Executive Committee (NEC).
According to him, the party’s position was further reinforced during the President’s working visit to Anambra State on May 8.
“In line with this resolution, APGA did not field a presidential candidate for the 2027 election,” Opara said.
He explained that the arrangement was part of the party’s strategy to strengthen engagement with the Federal Government and advance the interests of Anambra State and the South-East geopolitical zone.
Opara said the partnership was expected to promote cooperation in infrastructure, economic development and public service delivery.
He, however, stressed that the alliance would not lead APGA to abandon its political identity or electoral ambitions in the state.
According to him, the party remains committed to consolidating its position in legislative elections while maintaining its relationship with the Federal Government.
He stated the party’s position as: “In Anambra, it is Tinubu for President, APGA for Senate, House of Representatives and State House of Assembly.”
Opara expressed confidence that Soludo would use his organisational experience and political relationships to coordinate Tinubu’s campaign in the state.
He added that the party’s decision was guided by its commitment to progressive politics and what it considered the best interests of Anambra State and the South-East.
“Indeed, progressives are working together,” he said.
