Milwaukee Brewers manager Pat Murphy took a pointed shot at the Los Angeles Dodgers after his team swept them in the National League Championship Series.
In one of the biggest postseason upsets, the Brewers won Game 4 by a 6-4 score on Thursday night at Dodger Stadium, completing a 4-0 series sweep.
Milwaukee now awaits the winner of the American League Championship Series between the Cleveland Guardians and the Tampa Bay Rays. Cleveland currently holds a 2-1 lead.
MLB National Anthem performance turns awkward after trumpet breaks
Murphy’s blunt message
After capturing the pennant with a young, low-budget roster, Murphy — the two-time reigning National League Manager of the Year — highlighted the contrast between the two organizations and took aim at Los Angeles’ star-studded roster.
“They may have a bunch of Hall of Famers, but we have a bunch of gamers, and the gamers won this week,” Murphy said.
According to The Sporting News, the Dodgers carried the second-highest payroll in MLB this season at $339.32 million, while the Brewers ranked 19th at $146.21 million. The gap is even wider when factoring in Los Angeles’ deferred salaries and luxury-tax payments.
Still, Milwaukee eliminated the team that had won the previous two World Series. A lower-budget club swept one of the most expensive and talented rosters in the sport, and many fans outside Los Angeles celebrated the result.
Brewers one step from history
Milwaukee will now chase the first World Series title in franchise history against the winner of the Guardians-Rays series. With the American League Championship Series still several days from concluding, the Brewers will have time to rest and get their pitchers recovered before the Fall Classic, where Murphy and company will attempt to claim the 2026 championship.
