Katsina State Governor, Dikko Radda, has commended President Bola Tinubu for approving the expansion of the electricity substation in Kankia Local Government Area of the state.
He said the project would strengthen electricity infrastructure and improve power supply to residents of Katsina State.
The governor gave the commendation on Friday while speaking at the commissioning of the upgraded substation.
He described the project as one of the Federal Government’s interventions aimed at improving infrastructure and delivering the dividends of democracy to Nigerians.
“On behalf of the government and the people of Katsina State, I wish to express our profound gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the expansion of this substation to improve electricity supply for our people,” he said.
Radda described Kankia as a proud host community for the electricity facility and urged residents to protect the infrastructure to ensure its continued operation.
“The project has been completed, and we are here today to formally commission it. Honourable Minister, please convey our sincere appreciation to Mr President for this remarkable gesture towards the people of Katsina State,” the governor added.
He said the commissioning was part of a series of development activities in the state, noting that the government had also held a groundbreaking ceremony for another project in Mashi Local Government Area before proceeding to commission the expanded and upgraded facility in Kankia.
The governor further disclosed that the railway project linking Kano, Daura, Katsina and Maradi was nearing completion, describing it as one of the major infrastructure projects expected to benefit the state.
Radda also announced plans to extend piped water from Zobe Dam to Kankia and about eight other local government areas, saying the project had been anticipated for more than four decades.
“This project has been anticipated for more than 40 years, but, by the infinite mercy of Almighty Allah, we have now been able to flag it off,” he said.
He expressed hope that piped water would reach Kankia and the other benefiting local government areas by the beginning of 2027.
According to him, the water supply project involves a pipeline stretching approximately 100 kilometres and is expected to improve access to potable water for residents of the benefiting communities.
Radda attributed the progress in infrastructure development to reforms introduced by the Tinubu administration, saying they had helped the state government deliver development projects to the people.
“We have been able to undertake these projects because of the reforms introduced by President Tinubu, which have helped us deliver the dividends of democracy to our people,” he said.
The governor reaffirmed the state government’s support for Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress, adding that Kankia had remained a stronghold of the party.
He urged the host community to safeguard the newly commissioned substation for the benefit of present and future generations.
